My closest friends could attest that I am such a kitchen dummy. Being the youngest in the family, I've never been assigned to do the cooking. Since I'm also the only child who stayed with my mom forever (all my siblings have lived in their dorms for years), I've always depended on mommy, dad, Eka, kuya, dete (wait, that's all of them hahaha) or our house help to prepare food for us. These might be very easy for you, but please note that I don't even know
how to use the stove before attempting any of these. I don't know
how to make hot water for myself and I used to ask our house help to
cook oatmeal for me - just for you to get a picture how much of a
beginner I am.
I once had a conversation with mom that went like this:
Mom: Anak mag-luto ka nga.
Me: Ma, di ako marunong!
Mom: Halika tuturuan kita!
Me: *oh no* ... ayaw koooo... *paawa effect* :)))
Before I had the courage to do all this, I'd rather be hungry than prepare food. "Walang food? Sige, di na lang ako kakain" was a line my mom would always hear from me.

For the past days, I've grown hungry. Haha. Since my mommy got injured and we don't have a helper at the moment, I've been burdened to prepare food for us. Else, hunger games it is :)) Since this is also a breakthrough for me, I've been taking pictures in all my new cooking adventures.
Tocino, rice, and kamatis. I'm so happy I learned how to cook this because I love eating this so much! I was surprised that it's very easy to cook. And my, it's so yummy! And I'm kind of proud I cooked it like how my sister does. Yay :)
Baguio beans and mayonnaise. I love this very very simple dish. This and sinigang's kangkong are probably the only vegetables I eat. I used to always request this when I was a kid. My only contribution then was only to remove the tip and peel off the thing on the sides (sorry for the weird explanation haha). Now, I did that, and more :)
Pritong talong with bagoong and calamnsi. I'm very happy with this dish because I enjoyed eating it also! I cooked the rice in the pan where I cooked the talong. Mom said it's okay :)) Because I loved this so much, I cooked this again for dinner. And now we don't have bagoong anymore :))
Tomato and cheese tortilla wrap with calamnsi juice. This is an easy dish because you only need the oven. We often prepare this at home - my sister does it with tuna, my dad does it with tuna and some greens. I also wanted to keep mom from drinking Coke that's why I made her a drink :)
Potatoes and tomatoes. This was suggested by Josh and I'm thankful he talked me through it. Is garlic supposed to be hard to peel? Coz I found it hard haha :)) When I was about to mince them, I was ready to cry. Then I realized, onions pala yung nakakaiyak :)) I also asked Josh several times if I were to slice the potatoes first before boiling them. He said yes. And guess what. I put the potatoes in the pot without slicing them! I also forgot to strain the potatoes before I prepped the pan for the garlic. For the tomatoes, I turned the oven on for 4 minutes. After hearing the bell, I realized the oven wasn't plugged :))))
Here's my personal cookbook. He's very supportive and helpful :D I asked him what thyme is and I also pretended to know what mince meant. Hahaha. He was helpful enough to tell me that it's okay to do it without thyme, and that he searched a photo of what minced and diced looked like :))
I don't know why I was so scared to cook. I've been called a brat a lot of times for not even attempting. I always panicked when asked to handle anything in the kitchen. But I thank God that I've grown out of that and I now know which way the stove knobs should go. Although I don't really know what a "dash" or a "drizzle" is, I'm proud of myself for finally trying and succeeding :D
When we were kids, parents are there to take care of us. Now that we're all grown up, it's our time to take care of them. In the attempt to feed my mom, all I did was buy lots of fruits (thinking this would be the easiest way to feed my mom). Before I knew it, I also had vegetables in my grocery basket, thinking, "I'll cook whatever. I must and this time, I have no choice." How did I do it? 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear." As terrifying as it sounds for me, I had to and will really do it for my loved ones. And if this wasn't our situation, I knew in my heart that I would eventually need to start trying - for my future kids. I guess God just wanted me to have a different kind of experience and a deeper kind of revelation for me to truly enjoy and appreciate my first encounter with cooking.
It also says in Philippians 4:13 that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," and yes, I did it, and God pulled through for me :D
